“Acting for Heritage” is an initiative led by JADD by mobilizing young pople to play an
active role in the protection, preservation, and promotion of World Heritage proprieties in
Madagascar. This program is part of the World Heritage Volunteer Campaign. This year, the
initiative took place in Marojejy National Park, which is included in the Rainforests of the
Atsinanana, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The intervention began with a “Workcamp” from September 25 to October 4, 2024, carried
out by seven national and local young volunteers in three localities around Marojejy National
Park : the Rural Commune of Maroambihy and Andasibe-Kobahina, and the Urban Commune
of Andapa.
Several activities were implemented, including awareness-raising and education about World
Heritage, environment, and climate change among local communities and pupils; courtesy
visits to authorities; exploration of Marojejy National Park followed by cleanup actions at
camping sites; and training for local youth on green and blue entrepreneurship.
This initiative aims to strengthen the commitment of local communities to the protection of
Marojejy National Park, promote their empowerment, and educate younger generations about
the challenges and importance of preserving the site as a World Heritage.
